Alberta Health Changes

Since Windermere Plaza Medical Clinic opened its doors in 2015, our physicians and staff have done their best to provide a comprehensive medical home for our patients.

Starting March 31, 2020, government cuts to public health care and services for Albertans will come into effect. Many of these changes may be confusing and unexpected. To help you better understand how these changes will impact you, we have compiled some helpful resources that we highly encourage you to look at.

Please be assured that we will continue to strive to provide the best care for you and your families. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate through these challenging times together.

Incompetence and Consequence: Alberta’s New Framework for Health Care
This blog post written by an Alberta physician explains some of the changes in health care funding and why doctors are so concerned.

How Will These Changes Affect You?

Our priority has been, and will continue to be, to support our patients and their families by providing comprehensive medical care. However, changes to our family practice will be necessary in order to keep the clinic running. We will try our best to minimize the impact on our patients and their lives.

The following changes will apply starting March 31, 2020:

  • All patients should arrive 5-10 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time to complete a Reason for Visit Form

  • Routine office visits will be time-limited, so be prepared to book another appointment if you have multiple issues that cannot be thoroughly addressed in one visit

  • Mandatory seniors' driver's medicals will no longer be insured by Alberta Health, which means that patients over the age of 74.5 years will need to pay out-of-pocket for these forms

  • Review of test results will require an appointment

  • Fees for all uninsured services will be implemented (Click here for more information)
